Increased Accountability for All Schools…

Oct 20, 2017

In the coming week, or so, primary schools will be receiving the first 7/12ths of their PE & Sport Premium since the announcement of the doubling funding.

Schools will now face increased accountability since the doubling of the funding and if you’re not aware, then please read on.

So, here are the changes:

  • Every school’s website will be reviewed and information reported back to DfE
  • Schools/governors contacted if questions are raised to check their understanding of the grant and their future intentions
  • Schools will be required to publish how many pupils within their school are meeting swimming attainment targets.
  • Nationally – (from Summer 2018) 5% of schools will be required to take part in a ‘sampling review’ conducted by an external organisation to look at how schools are complying with existing conditions. This will build understanding of local practise and inject challenge into the system highlighting the importance of using the premium funding effectively.

The message is still clear how schools should use their PE & Sport Premium…

… schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

With the government’s commitment that the funding will be in place until 2020 it is vitally important that schools have a clear vision on how they will be using the funding for the next 3 years to make the biggest impact for present and future pupils.
